Gestión de residuos y sostenibilidad: perspectivas futuras y desafíos globales

Resumen
El objetivo de este trabajo es exponer la importancia de gestionar adecuadamente los residuos generados por las diferentes actividades y necesidades de las personas. A la vez, se presenta una revisión de las diferentes estrategias para una gestión eficaz de estos, incluyendo su reducción y prevención, el reciclaje y la reutilización, el tratamiento biológico y el compostaje, el uso de tecnologías innovadoras y la concienciación. Se prevé que la generación de residuos aumente drásticamente en los próximos años, pasando de 2.300 millones de toneladas en 2023 a 3.800 millones de toneladas en 2050. La gestión deficiente de los residuos puede causar contaminación del aire, el agua y el suelo, lo que afecta a la salud pública, genera costos económicos y genera importantes consecuencias sociales. Se clasifican según su origen, biodegradabilidad, peligrosidad y composición. Su gestión eficaz previene problemas ambientales y de salud, contribuyendo a la sostenibilidad ambiental y la sostenibilidad. La reducción y prevención de residuos es una estrategia clave para una gestión eficaz. El reciclaje y la reutilización de materiales son cruciales en la gestión de residuos sólidos. El tratamiento biológico, incluido el compostaje, los transforma en productos útiles. El uso de tecnologías innovadoras y la educación son fundamentales para el éxito de cualquier estrategia de gestión de residuos.
El reciclaje ofrece ventajas como la reducción de la huella de carbono y la protección de los ecosistemas y la biodiversidad. Sin embargo, enfrenta desafíos como la adecuada separación de residuos en origen, la contaminación de materiales reciclables y la falta de infraestructura para el reciclaje.
