Design and implementation of an augmented reality application focused on improving technological education

Abstract
This work summarizes the activities developed in the implementation of an augmented reality (AR) application for the recognition and how to use electrical equipment. The objective of this project was to improve the educational quality of students belonging to technical and technological careers in the field of electricity. The proposed methodology collected technical information of the electrical equipment and modules used in the learning process in electricity. The information was digitized to be accessible through the AR application. The final user could focus on the module or equipment through their smartphone and the information was displayed on the screen. The data also showed a menu of options for each component of the equipment or module. The results obtained on the use of the application reported the satisfaction of the final users who processed the knowledge better using interactive resources. The understanding of the users was superior compared to traditional teaching. Furthermore, it overcame general problems such as the scarce interaction of the users with the educational resources or the insufficient availability of the modules where there are a significant number of students. Therefore, it was concluded that AR application with its interactive resources surpassed the shortcomings of traditional education, generating satisfactory and lasting results in the learning process for technical majors.
