Dear readers, welcome to the first edition 2010 of Prisma Tecnológico, the semi-annual techno-scientific publication of the Technological University of Panama. In this edition, we include interesting topics on telecommunications, information systems and electric power systems. There are articles on the impact of telecommunications on our lives, the evolution of optical communication networks, the evolution of fourth generation cellular systems and current voice over IP technology. Also, in our R & D section, we included a work on the development of a graphical interface for the study of spread spectrum systems by direct sequences. In addition, important issues on energy saving and energy quality are addressed.
