In this year 2014, I want to highlight the great importance of the celebration of the first centenary of the Panama Canal, an engineering marvel that changed not only the economic conditions of the world, by uniting the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans, but also meant a revolution in maritime transport, shortening distances, reducing costs and sailing time. On the other hand, there is also the social, economic and political transformation of global proportions with which the Panama Canal has promoted maritime transport, which has been, throughout the history of mankind, one of the most important elements in the advancement of peoples, allowing the exchange of goods, goods of all kinds and the interaction between different cultures.
